Katie Westerfield, CEO & Founder
Born and raised in Irondequoit, New York, Katie moved to Ohio in 2004. She attended school in the area for Fire Science, and was an Intern with Dayton Fire’s Investigation and Prevention Department. In 2011, while traveling out in the Bad Lands of South Dakota in the middle of a snow storm – the name of her next adventure came to her: Homeward Bound… How perfect! She has built the company from the ground up, and carefully selects her team to represent everything she has worked for. Today, Katie and her husband, Matt, live in Centerville with their four children. In her spare time she enjoys hiking, traveling, cooking, and coaching soccer for local leagues. She loves coffee, calamari, and is a sucker for a good cheeseburger, too!
Willow and Cypress are her huskies who have very unique names. Willow, is actually named after the unity tree they used in their wedding ceremony. Their dog Paxson was buried beneath the willow tree, and it was a wonderful way to commemorate him when they welcomed her into the family. Cypress is a newer addition, and is named after the bald cypress trees in the bayous of Louisiana – a special place for Katie and Matt. They also have a kitty named Siggy, an adaption of a family name precious to them.
Fun Fact: If you hear her say, “If its all right by you…” she is really saying “bayou” and thinks she’s hilarious!
Director of Administration & Lead Care Specialist
Savannah is originally from Texas, and happened to meet her now husband by chance, who lived here in Ohio. After getting married, they moved back up here where he works for his family’s electrical company. Savannah has vast experience managing a kennel, and she also grew up with dogs. She currently has two fuzzy kitty cats, and hopes to adopt a dog in the near future. She enjoys working with us because taking care of pets is a passion and brings her utmost joy. When she first applied to join our team, she said that it has been on her heart ever since the moment she first drove by our sign over a year ago. In her free time she loves to capture all of life’s moments as a freelance photographer, videographer, and artist.
Fun Fact: Her most favorite thing to do is backpacking in the mountains! She’s even done Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa!
Executive & Administrative Assistant, Lead Care Specialist
Rebecca was also a treasure we hired the same as Sandy in August of 2015. She quickly became an asset with her attention to detail, and thoroughness. She too, was promoted into management in 2016. Rebecca was also raised in Kettering, Ohio and began working for us while attending the University of Dayton. She has since moved on to med school, and anticipates graduation with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2020. When she was young, her mother adopted a Rottweiler-Terrior mix named Lucky from SICSA. Her family currently has two hamsters, and a dwarf rabbit named June. When she has free time, which is quite rare these days with her studies, she enjoys traveling and experiencing new things.
Mikayla was raised in a career Military family and has lived all over the country. She ended up in Centerville when her father retired from active duty, and is currently a student at Ohio University studying Music Production and Business Management. She loves coming back home to work with us over her school breaks and the summers to get her fill of all the various pets in our care. She had many different dogs growing up, and even a leopard gecko. When she settles after college, she dreams of adopting a Golden Retriever! In her past time she loves hiking in Hocking Hills, fall weather, and drinking a chai tea.
Fun Fact: She was a proud member of the Centerville High School Jazz Band and Color Guard for four years.
Believe it or not, Heather grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan as a huge Ohio State Fan! She currently resides happily in Centerville. She has proudly rescued two of her dogs from SICSA, where she is adjunct faculty and loves to volunteer there as well. Often, she will recognize dogs or cats our clients have adopted when she visits them. In her free time she enjoys watching movies, reading, hiking, and spending time with her dogs. She loves working for us because of the time she gets to spend with our clients pets, and being able to give them assurance that their furry family is in the best hands. She also likes to be outside and active, so its a double plus!
Fun Fact: She is directionally challenged… and if it weren’t for GPS she’d never find her next home to visit!
Alexis dreams of becoming an exotic and small animal veterinarian. She is currently a Biology major at Wright State University. She has lived in the area her entire life, and is currently residing in Kettering. She loves working with animals, and is also employed by the emergency vet clinic, Dayton Care Center, over on Clyo. She enjoys working with our clients pets because it gives her a little getaway from the sick and injured. Alexis enjoys bringing pets in her care peace and happiness – whether they’re with us, or not feeling the best at the ER Clinic. She has quite the zoo of her own as well, so hang tight! Alexis has two dogs, Bobo and Tazz, a kitty named Chestnut, two bearded dragons, two chinchillas, and a snake. In her free time, she truly enjoys drawing and bringing out her creativeness, but she loves a chance to get outdoors to hike and explore.
Fun Fact: She was born during a Super Bowl!
